The Florida Whig Party is affiliated with the Modern Whig Party. While we realize there are many Independent Whigs and other Whig Parties in existence the FLWP finds the platform of the MWP to best fit our own principles.

Welcome

After a 150 year hiatus, the Whig Party is back! The Whigs have been around for hundreds of years and have taken several incarnations.

The Whigs first appeared in the late 17th century. They were a group of Scottish Protestants who stood up against King James II in England.

The Second Incarnation was during the time of the American Revolution. Those who supported splitting from England were known as Whigs while the loyalist faction was called Tories.

Again, this time in 1834, the first American Whig Party was created. Founders like Henry Clay and Daniel Webster formed a coalition of Anti-Masons, old National Republicans, and others to stand up against the presidency of Andrew Jackson. That party fell apart shortly before the Civil War.

Now, here we are in the 21st century. The current Duopolistic political system is failing. Special interests and corporations have infected the Democrat and Republican Parties. They are nothing more than different sides of the same coin. We need a Party who believes in the ideas and ideals of the Founding Fathers. We believe that party is the Whig Party.

Please enjoy reading our blog. Feel free to comment, even if you don't agree. We also have a list of other Whig bloggers, plus a map of Whigs and interested people from all over the world.

Thanx for stopping by. Hope to see you again soon.

As a radically militant moderate and proud New England Whig, it gives me great pleasure to salute my Southern confrères in Whiggery. Let us fondly hope that the rest of the nation will at last come to its senses and embrace the path of patriotism and manly independence.

The Modern Whig Party is now officially back... Reinvigorating a historic party is very much a work in progress, but the National Executive Committee has established a party headquarters in Washington, DC with ambitious plans to come. Please note that the Modern Whig Party holds a mainstream, middle-of-the-road, and independent mindset and caters to those who cherry-pick between GOP ideas and Democratic ideas.

Until they can be displaced the Mraxists must be driven from the media, government, and law - all of which they own. DO NOT throw your vote away. Of course we won't get what we want with McCain, but it WILL slow the Marxist takeover of the United States. Fight on for freedom.

Hmm.. I looked over the Radical Whig Party. From what I saw they seem... well, radical. But everyone's entitled to their opinion. I prefer the moderate viewpoints of the Modern Whig Party. Plus, the cussing on the Radical Whig site makes it look unprofessional. Oh well, to each their own.

You know... At the heart of what the Radical Whig guy is saying, I can agree with a lot of what he says. Obviously, it is all about nationalism, but their actual ideas and support (ie American assimilation, pro-Israel, anti-illegal immigration, pro-military) are not so different. It's their presentation that turns me off more than anything. They also are lean on what to do about the issues and prefer to rant. I can rant for free and don't need to pay $20 to a radical Web site to rant with the choir.

I am going to stick with the Modern Whig Party as I like the mainstream, non-fringe approach. I also think that the Radical Whig's Celtic symbol looks kind of like a swistika, and even though it is apparent that is not their intention, it will turn people off. But I do hope the "radical" guys will forge some kind of civil working relationship with the Modern Whig Party.

Actually, seems like now that the Modern Whig Party is on the cusp of really taking off into the mainstream mindset, all the crazies are starting to come out of the woodwork to try and get their share.

I became a whig in 1991. I worked my butt off trying to get the Whig Party recognized in CA. I tried to get on the ballot as a Whig in 1992 to run against the fascist Dana Rohrbacher for Congress in Huntington Beach. I came up short, I got about 6,400 or so signatures and I needed 7,700. I was a moderate like the Modern Whigs, but no one cared. I am now extremely radical. I became a Radical Whig because I didn't want to be affiliated with any party except me. I rant and rave for therapuetic reasons. My symbol stands for national pride. If no one likes it because it looks like a swastika, ALL Celtic runes look like a swastika. So what? I could care less. I'm not a fascist, I do love studying the barbarians though (working on an MA in History). The cussing is me. I say what many would love to say but they must appeal to the "mainstream." My wife 'gets me' politically, but hates the language I use on my site. "You'd reach so many more people if you didn't use that language." Well...one man's profanity is another man's lyric (U.S. Supreme Court) - not that I support the Sup Ct on many many issues, but they are right on about my "prose." So the Modern Whigs have 7,000 members. That's impressive, but remember, Obama could let a fart and get more than 7,000 people to come and smell it. Glad some of you liked my site, but please don't compare me to "mainstream". The thought makes me want to barf. For what it's worth, I'll link to the Modern Whigs as I do indeed support most of their principles--unless they're too embarrassed to have their link on my "radical ranting site". -- John Wedemeyer, The Radical Whig == radicalwhig.org

A link on the Radical Whig Web site is certainly welcomed by the Modern Whig Party. If we had more people as passionate about their beliefs as The Radical Whig, things would be much different. So what if he swears and uses terms that would make grown men blush? 5,000 Whigs are military veterans and likely have heard similar language while defending the country. The Radical Whig conveys what he is thinking, doesn't conform by using "mainstream" prose and sticks to his guns. What is there to be embarrased by? If he was misinformed or subscribed to obviously faulty propaganda or lies, then I wouldn't give him the time of day. Be the admittedly few items that I have read indicate well crafted arguments, many of which would be welcomed into the "mainstream" if not for the colorful language.

As for our 7,000 members (it's actually getting toward 10,000 now), we certainly are aware of our modest numbers in the grand scheme of things. But we are starting from scratch and strive to build this organization the right away. Otherwise we will become marginalized and ineffective like the other third parties. Essentially, the Modern Whig Party was founded by military veterans who were sick of waiting for someone to act in a sensible, mainstream and realistic fashion devoid of partisan bickering to make things happen, so we decided to get up and work to do it ourselves.
